Volunteers needed throughout Girlguiding Wraxall Division

We have a variety of roles needed throughout the division in several of our districts. Roles can be flexible such as every week or less often so you can choose a role and regularity to suit you. The majority of units meet weekly on an evening but some in the division and in the wider Girlguiding Somerset North County meet more flexibly such as fortnightly or monthly on weekends or weekday evenings (you can see the units and their meeting frequency, times and day on the page titled Our Division on this website). Volunteering with Girlguiding is very rewarding with every volunteer bringing different skills to the unit and everybody has fun.

Roles available within Girlguiding can take a variety of forms. You could train to become a leader with Girlguiding or become a unit helper where you come along and help regularly without being a leader. Whilst women can become leaders, men as well as women can be unit helpers and have other roles. For 14-17 year olds, they can volunteer with a unit for their Duke of Edinburgh or become young leaders and 14-25 year olds can train to become peer educators. Outside of actual meetings, units can benefit from volunteers helping out with admin, finances, recording programme activities and keeping our online system GO up to date or just being an occasional helper for events. Girlguiding requires all volunteers to be dbs checked and do our online Safe Space training. Leaders are also expected to do a first aid course.

In Clevedon East District, the waiting lists for all three Brownie units is ever increasing with girls struggling to get a space. The district would love to open a new Brownie unit to help give more girls the experience of being a Brownie and ease the waiting lists of the existing units but to do this, they need volunteers willing to become leaders and unit helpers to enable this to happen.

In Clevedon West District, they need leaders in all their sections, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers to help run their units. They would also like to open a new Brownie unit to give more girls the chance to join Brownies.

In Nailsea District, 1st Nailsea Rainbows, 10th Nailsea Brownies, 1st Nailsea Guides and 6th Nailsea Guides all have only one main leader and a small unit team. These units are currently extremely reliant on the main leader doing almost everything with leaders from other units stepping in to help out often. They desperately need new volunteers who can commit some of their time to be leaders or unit helpers and ease the pressure off the current leaders in the district. 1st Nailsea Rainbows and 10th Nailsea Brownies meet on Mondays, 6th Nailsea Guides meet on Wednesdays and 1st Nailsea Guides meet on Thursdays.

In Long Ashton District, the waiting list for the only Rainbow unit in the district is ever increasing and the unit is currently due to be full until 2026 so Long Ashton are hoping to open a second Rainbow unit to give more girls the opportunity to join our youngest section and needs volunteers to be leaders and unit helpers to run it. The current Rainbow unit meets fortnightly on a Tuesday and they are hoping a new Rainbow unit will meet the same frequency on the Tuesdays the current unit does not meet – this would be ideal for previous volunteers of Girlguiding who are interested in getting back involved. 1st Long Ashton Brownies meets on Tuesday evenings and are also in need of more volunteers: the Brownie unit has one main leader and is reliant on a rota of parent helpers and young leaders to run. They would benefit from more regular volunteers who can actively help the main leader run the unit.
