Nailsea Units Have A Busy Term

Rainbow, Brownie and Guide units in Nailsea have been enjoying a variety of activities this term.

1st Nailsea Rainbows have enjoyed doing their Advent badge making festive creations and celebrating with music, food, games and fun. 3rd Nailsea Rainbows had a Christmasy time at Mendip Activity Centre tobogganing with Christmas music, santa hats, fake snow, hot chocolate and candy canes followed by playing disc golf. 6th Nailsea Guides have been doing an African badge and enjoyed some drumming (this is the link to the video – https://fb.watch/a2GNBRkOAk/) and made their own 12 Days of Christmas music video (https://fb.watch/a2GMOvF9av/).

10th Nailsea Brownies have also been very busy. They have been working on their Charities badge choosing to raise money to buy food for the Trussell Trust who provide food and gift Christmas hampers for those less fortunate in the local community. During half term, they completed tasks for family and friends, earning a small payment for each job completed. Each time they earned some money, they had to colour in a flower on the chart that they had designed at brownies the previous week. With the money they collected and the proceeds from a stall at a local craft fair, the brownies managed to collect the grand total of £250, more than half of that coming from their half term efforts. They met outside tescos and with a couple of volunteer parents split into 4 groups to spend the money. Each group of 3 or 4 had £35 to spend and a list of food required by the Trust. They really enjoyed themselves, using the scanner and looking for bargains! One mum said that she had never had so much fun in tescos! Once the money was spent, they returned to ‘base’, to deposit their purchases and collect a further £25, which was to be spent on gifts, either for boys aged between 7 and 10, or men. Once again, several bargains were found. During one of their previous brownie meetings, a visiting speaker had told the girls a little about the work of the Trust and they had also made 1 or 2 Christmas cards each, to deliver with the food at the collection point, in Clevedon. The Brownies also had an exciting final meeting of the term, when the Chocolate Tart Lady ran a chocolate workshop for them. They each made 12 knackali which they decorated with a selection of toppings provided. They also learned about where chocolate comes from and the different types of chocolate and were able to taste some. 6 of the knackalis were placed in a clear presentation box and 6 were put in a cellophane bag, tied with a ribbon, both suitable to be given as gifts to friends or family. The brownies also constructed a small cardboard box, into which they put a mini ganache, chocolate Christmas pudding. The girls really enjoyed their evening and one was heard to say it was the best day ever!!
