Brownies enjoy a home summer camp

This year 10th Nailsea Brownies spent 3 days in the ‘ENCHANTED WOOD ’at Long Ashton Guide HQ. Whilst there, they climbed the ‘Faraway Tree ‘and visited many different lands on their journey.

After making placemats and drink mats, their journey was ready to begin.

First of all, they had to make a fairy door, to enable them access to the tree and all the adventures it held.

Once inside, they visited NURSERY RHYME LAND, where they had to complete a quiz, finding answers hidden around the outside of the building, finishing with a collage depicting one of the nursery rhymes, for which they scored points for their team.

TOPSY TURVEY LAND involved a card swapping game and a skateboard game which required 1 girl to lie on the board and another to hold her feet and push her. The aim of the game was to remove balls from one end of the room to the other. This game caused great hilarity!!

Escape from the tree meant a ride down a very long, rough slide, not something the girls wanted to do, so they were offered a cushion each by Moonface, a resident of the tree. They designed and stuffed the cushions themselves and were all very proud of the results!

On the 2nd afternoon, they had a visitor who brought 2 owls, a millipede and 2 mice with him, some of which, the girls were able to handle. As a result, the brownies each made a hanging owl on a branch from Model Magic.

Another land the brownies visited was ‘TAKE WHAT YOU WANT LAND’. The girls really enjoyed this as they were allowed to choose from a number of items and decorate them as the wanted to, scoring points for their design and imagination.

The 3rd day was the birthday of one of the book characters, so the tree had to be decorated with bunting and lanterns. The brownies used stickers to decorate the lanterns, hung a scratch art fairy and 4 wind chimes from the bottom and a star at the top, then finally added an LED tea light so that the lantern could be lit at night. The tree guests at the party all chose a fancy dress from the dressing up box, but the brownies had to make their own costumes. They all went to the party dressed as elves and very smart they looked!

All the characters in the story who were at the party had to catch a present, so the girls had a decorated spoon with a number on it and had to find a bag with their number on, hidden around the outside of the building.

Finally, the brownie parents were invited to tea and cakes, so that the girls could show their parents what they had been doing during their 3 days in the Enchanted Wood visiting the Faraway Tree.
