Lots of units in Wraxall Division have been making the most of the outdoors, learning new skills and having a lot of fun! Lots of girls also received lots of badges, including plenty of Theme Awards and Section Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards, a brilliant achievement!
NAILSEA – 1st Nailsea Brownies have been very adventurous making the most of the outdoor space at Long Ashton Guide Hut with campfires and tents, making s’mores, identifying trees and compass pictures. They also enjoyed a family picnic at a local park in Nailsea and went paddle boarding, learning how to stay on and ‘fall off’ them. The Brownie unit also made clay pots which were glazed and fired. 10th Nailsea Brownies completed their First Aid skills builder badge with the help of Mini First Aid North Somerset as well as giving the Ladybird challenge a go; they had to do 5 ladybird related things. One of the Brownies, Harriet, has donated 30cm of her hair to the Little Princess Trust for children who loose their hair due to cancer treatment; afterwards, she and her Dad rode their bikes from Bath to Nailsea to raise money. They raised £1000, which is enough to make one wig and go towards a second wig. Everyone is very proud of Harriet! 6th Nailsea Guides enjoyed an evening of frisbee golf at Mendip Activity Centre and took 8 Guides to RIAT Fairford air show where they had an amazing hot day doing STEM activities, flight demonstrations finishing off with the Red Arrows display! 5th Nailsea Brownies also enjoyed an evening at Mendip Activity Centre, this time kayaking in Hewish. Meanwhile, 3rd Nailsea Rainbows also enjoyed Mini First Aid North Somerset visit to help them complete their First Aid skills builder badge and Laura, a Girlguiding South West Region Ambassador for STEM, also visited and helped the Rainbows make and test out rocket balloons. They had a lot of fun! The Rainbow unit also enjoyed a term of making things, baking and general all round fun.
LONG ASHTON – 2nd Long Ashton Brownies travelled by train to Weston-Super-Mare and enjoyed a day on the beach whilst 2nd Long Ashton Guides enjoyed an evening at the new high ropes course at Ashton Court.
CLEVEDON WEST – 6th Clevedon West Brownies have been working on the Mayday Badge, helped designed by Girlguiding with the RNLI; they enjoyed a trip to the coastguard and made aquatic felt animals. The Brownies also had a visit from Wessex Water to help them complete the Zero Waste Badge and enjoyed an evening at Glennywoods. 1st Clevedon West Rainbows have also been doing the Mayday Badge, building and sailing boats and made posters of what they have learnt. 3rd Clevedon West Rainbows are another unit in Clevedon West who have been doing the Mayday badge, they have been busy visiting Clevedon sear front, eating ice cream from Neads Coffee Hut and RNLI activities. Lots of interest badges have been completed by the Rainbows and, in unit meetings, they have been doing the Explore skills builder.
CLEVEDON EAST – 3rd Clevedon Brownies enjoyed crate stacking at Mendip Activity Centre and spent some time litter picking around Clevedon East Guide Hut. 13th Clevedon Brownies enjoyed an evening at Clevedon beach whilst 1st Clevedon East Rainbows had an amazing summer term. The Rainbows completed a survey of Clevedon sea front and were treated to a bonus encounter with the coastguard who spent time telling the Rainbows about their role. The Rainbow unit also visited Stockway North Nature Reserve in Nailsea, spending a beautiful hot and sunny evening looking at the nature and wildlife and having a go at pond dipping. They ended their term with a RainbowFest! This was complete with glitter tatoos, a sparkly photo booth and a special performance for parents and carers showcasing their talents.
